Before starting to sport or before trying out a new sport, consult with your health professionals.

Although you need to avoid repetitive motions and pressure on the nervous system, there are still activities that could benefit you. Also mind stretching! This can cause problems.


Not being active has a lot of other disadvantages for your health. Let's focus on what we still can do!

Tai Chi

Pilates

Pilates promotes strength, mobility and posture with exercises that benefit deep core muscles and balance. During these exercises you need to focus on precision, breath, flow … This helps you to build muscle strength. When an exercise doesn't feel well for you body, because there is for example too much pressure on your hands, then the instructor can give you alternative exercises that stimulate the same muscles.
Watch out with overstretching, which can cause symptoms. Let your instructor know that you have HNPP.

Swimming

The weightless, pressure-free environment of water reduces stress on the nervous system, while the fluid movements promote flexibility without repetitive strain. Modify your swimming methods—try the crawl, breaststroke, or other techniques—when experiencing symptoms for a personalized and adaptable exercise approach.

Walking

Since repetitive movement has to be avoided, one of the advises is to avoid walking in the same position the whole time. This means that you can try walking on various surfaces, for example: grass, sand ... Of course, when experiencing symptoms, it is better to have a rest.

Aqua gymnastics/aerobics

Aqua gymnastics/aerobics is a low-impact activity that benefits muscles, strength and heart health.

Repetitive movements are avoided because of the variation in exercises. If some exercises are difficult for you, then you can skip them or variate and do other movements.

Snorkeling

Low-impact activity that benefits heart health, muscle strength, lungs.
